1 AUGUST - LUGHNASADH – pronounced Loon-asa
Lammas – the Celtic Harvest Festival
This is the festival associated with the power of the Sun and Light. Bonfires were lit by the presiding druid in honour of Lugh. Lammas celebrates the harvesting of the crops as the Earth offers her gifts to the Celts in the form of corn, grain and berries. This was also a time for the Celts to display their skills, a time for for handfasting and for villagers to gather together in celebration of the new harvest.
