21 MARCH – SPRING EQUINOX
MEAN EARRAIGH – pronounced Myawn ah-ree or Alban Eiler (Light of the Earth)
At the Spring Equinox the Sun is crossing the celestial equator and on this day daylight and night-time are of equal length everywhere in the world. Mean Earraigh was a time for celebrating new life, new beginnings and hope. Crops were typically sown at this time.
A time of spring cleaning homes, hearts and minds to allow space for new beginnings, new inspirations and new cycles.
Pagans celebrated the Saxon goddess Eostre, symbolic of new beginnings and fertility. The Celts saw the equinoxes as a time of transition and these were a powerful time for magic for the Druids.
